End of #FOSSY2025, next up? #FOSSY2026 in Vancouver, BC August 6-9 at UBC! This year's #FOSSY has been great. I hope more Red Hatters can join next year.
Community event organizers take note: badges where names show up on both sides are essential. #FOSSY got this right! And they reuse the holders each year, too.
Tess Gadwa presenting on "Decentralized Project Management" at #FOSSY#FOSSY2025 - looking forward to insights on applied agile practices in open source communities.
@geekygirldawn gave a good talk on "Power Dynamics, Rug Pulls, and Other Impacts on FOSS Sustainability" at #FOSSY this morning. If you're considering a hard fork, you run the risk of splitting the contributor base. Don't assume they will follow you, but do assume you're going to have a lot more work to do. #FOSSY2025
Tail end of the Reproducible Builds talk at #FOSSY - Mixed feelings on this subject, overall I'm for the technical capability for forensic reasons, but don't think it is mutually exclusive with the value of trust via reputation. My internal metaphor is that it's only champagne if it comes from the Champagne region of France, but I've had many a sparkling wine that is much better than some Champagne. Trust only by reputation isn't a panacea, but neither is binary reproducibility.
#FOSSY day 3 kicking off with the SFC providing an update on its #GPL enforcement lawsuit against Vizio. Licenses only work when enforced, so everyone who works in open source benefits through this work. #FOSSY2025 - p.s., I think we all miss #groklaw
Kami Kaos presenting "How to Hold It Together When It All Falls Apart" at #FOSSY#FOSSY2025 - 10 minutes in and this is a must listen for every seriously committed open source community leader
