The whole house smells of oranges. That's Marmalade Day done for this year.

Xmas prep. Xmas 2026 at least that is.

This years Xmas sloe gin is a batch I decanted in 2021.

It may not look like much but at a time when the NBU (National Bee Unit) is warning of starvation the #bees in this hive managed to gather an estimated 50lbs of #honey.

While a commercial #beekeeper might take all the honey. We took nine frames off and extracted 21lbs of honey, returning at least another 5lbs of honey in the wet frames. They have time to complete their winter stores.

Total food miles about 60 yards.

Thank you bees.

I've spent the afternoon turning this into six bottles of pepper sauce (1.5l total) for next year.

Time well spent I think.
