He tried thousands of options, and concluded that carbonized bamboo was the most promising, due to its flexible, thick, and sturdy fibers that burned for a prolong period of time. Eventually, they discovered that wild growing bamboo found in Kyoto prefecture, Japan, was the best choice, creating a light bulb that burned for 1,200 hours!
