thank you admins of polyglot.city for approving of my application! I'll be moving my account to there starting today, so hopefully this works out

I think Gaming's name is cute, but if they wanted to make it more obvious that it's Cantonese (and avoid people calling him gaming as in the English word), the translators should have romanized his name as Gaaming instead

#GenshinImpact

@okwithmydecay I looked it up and it seems like (pardon the romaji usage, I don't have a Japanese keyboard on my phone) okashi is for confections and ya is for store, so it's probably a compound that might not show up in dictionaries
I BROKE MY #DUOLINGO STREAK FINALLY
freed from the owl! the streak was never a streak to begin with because I've spent so many streak freezes
man I've been thinking about moving off of mastodon.social, but I haven't found an instance who doesn't have some rule I disagree with or defederates an instance I think shouldn't be defederated.
I also would love to switch to an instance that has a character limit higher than 500 because this is so limiting
anyone have any recommendations? I have no clue what to tag this for but maybe #fediverse ?
citrus green tea today. smells better than it tastes (tastes like medicine to me?). would drink it again if I can't find anything better

@cos if I remember correctly, LingoDeer has Thai, although it's paywalled after a certain level. the Foreign Services Institute has a course that is dated but in public domain as well. the biggest Thai English dictionary on the Internet also has Thai lessons, but its name escapes me at the moment

(somewhat unrelated, but this is a great reminder for me to tidy up my Thai resources list!)

@sabret00the Duolingo is certainly fitting the bill unfortunately
clozemaster is a vocabulary learning website! (https://www.clozemaster.com/) they do a better job of explaining what it's about than I do, but basically, it's gamified fill in the blank so you can learn vocabulary in context. it's the classic post-Duolingo recommendation because it requires some knowledge of the language to get started. it doesn't have ads, but free accounts have a 30 sentence limit.
Learn language in context - Clozemaster

Clozemaster is language learning gamification through mass exposure to vocabulary in context. Great post-Duolingo app and useful for language learners of all levels. Free to sign up and play!

@sabret00the judging by the fact that most of their careers page is for positions concerning AI research, it wouldn't surprise me….
I deleted the app and started using Duolingo on my web browser with an adblocker so that they can't make money off of showing me ads, but training a potential Duolingo AI is 😬
my goal is to finish up the Indonesian tree and jump to clozemaster. might lose my 500+ day streak, but it's not worth keeping it in my opinion.
@sabret00the that's crazy! I didn't know that the classroom Duolingo could do that! at this point, I agree: a lot, if not most, of their exercises are just tedious repetitions at this point, and if you make a typo, you're out. I'd personally move off of Duolingo, but unfortunately, they're one of the only places with an Indonesian course, even if it's AI generated at this point
