I just took this way cool shot of Venus (upper right) behind the trees of my back yard. Some other stars of Capricornus are visible too. The trees are lit by light coming from the kitchen window.
Happy solstice! At 09:20 UTC today the Sun reached the southernmost point in its annual latitudinal motion. From now on the amount of daylight in the northern hemisphere will increase until the June solstice.

My first iridescent cloud since moving back to VA! The pink and green colors at the cloud edge are caused by wave interference as sunlight bends around teeny particles.

The dogs were going nuts so I checked and yup. Beautiful deer, wasn't too scared of me. I tried to shoo it away down the driveway and out but it ran off in a different direction so I let it be.
