Life is difficult but worth living
europeans when asked to help unblock the strait of hormuz
When Netanyahu bombs schools and hospitals in Gaza, and Trump bombs schools and hospitals in Iran, and our politicians say nothing, we clearly need better politicians.
New #Galileo satellite E28/GSAT0233 has started transmitting data, but is not yet operational. The Galileo constellation recently lost an (old) satellite, so this is good news. The other new satellite E32/GSAT0234 is also in orbit, but I don't see anything yet. https://galmon.eu/ has a live view.
@openrightsgroup it never gets old, huh?

Ex-Meta lobbyist put in charge of EU's digital rules: 'Tech oligarchy writing its own rulebook'

Pressure is growing to drop the appointment of a former Meta lobbyist, elected as an MEP in 2024, from a file which could rewrite the EU's regulation of US tech giants.

An excellent piece on the virtues of sad sandwiches by Misato Okaneya.

"Boterham demands no love or effort, and keeps the day going. I feel there is absolute trust in a boterham, not necessarily because it is excellent, but because it is simple and unpretentious."

Why do the Dutch never get tired of everyday sandwiches, the boterham?

At lunchtime on university campus one thing stands out: the boterham (sandwich). Coming from Japan’s elaborate bento culture, I was puzzled that so many students eat the same thin sandwich every day. I kept wondering, "Don’t they ever get tired of it?". This blog is a brief participant observation of that daily ritual.

The only viable path for the European digital landscape is open source and working together, not replacing a USA owned software product with a European (company) owned product. The path of open source reflects the mindset of the European promise much mote than a mediocre copycat product. But that is just my opinion.

Irish Examiner: Government bodies need to get off X, now

"Nobody in Ireland should be exposed to hate speech, bullying, or child sexual abuse images on X just to find out if their train is delayed"

"... most Government departments continue to use X for their outbound comms with the Irish people, with several, including the HSE, An Garda Síochána and the Department of Transport (via TFI and the TII) providing essential real-time updates via this now-niche third party platform — some exclusively so."

Government bodies need to get off X, now

Nobody in Ireland should be exposed to hate speech, bullying, or child sexual abuse images on X just to find out if their train is delayed, writes Clare O'Donoghue Velikic

I’ve said it before, but it needs repeating: We already have all the knowledge and technology we need to make an ecological society. It is our political and economic structures that prevent it. The quest for unlimited growth and accumulation exploits both people and our environment.
