Another great @TheAtlantic piece today, by @jayasax

"Most of us don’t naturally fall into friend pairs. Seeking them out, then, can lead to hurt—if we choose one friend over another, if the best-friend designation isn’t reciprocated, or if we don’t have a closest friend but feel that we should"

‘Best Friends’ Are a Surprisingly Recent Phenomenon

We weren’t always so taken with dynamic duos. But in recent decades, we’ve come to expect that people should have one closest companion.

Apparently there are people out there who think it's inappropriate to use Mastodon to talk about books you've written or promote projects you've worked on because it's marketing and self-promotion?

I am not one of those people. I implore you to write about the work you have done and the things you have made - I want to hear about that stuff!

Been five days since Twitter suspended a bunch of journalists, including me, for tweeting out factual reporting. And we're still suspended.

CNN's @donieosullivan, NYT's Ryan Mac and I can't access Twitter until we delete specific tweets that they said included "private information" but were actually just reporting.

Journalists Linette Lopez and Susan Li, who also covered Musk, are still suspended. No explanation given.

Threw out my back. I threw out my back but I still have a book deal so…
Earlier today Elon Musk said that my ban was temporary, 45 min later he denied my appeal to reinstate my account and confirmed that I am *permanently* banned. The email I just received says the decision cannot be reversed.
I have never once violated Twitters rules or terms of service. I’ve never had a single tweet flagged, my account was permanently banned with no warning and with no reason, after I reached out to Musk for comment.

Episode 50.5: Why Does Journalism History Matter? | Journalism History

To celebrate our first 50 episodes, we reflect with prior guests on the central mission of our show: Why does journalism history matter?

Honest question from a first time teacher: are all classes lovable? Because I genuinely think my students this semester are awesome and I’m worried next semester won’t live up to the good time we’ve had this year.
Handsomest/prettiest
If you enjoy someone's post on #Mastodon go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #algorithm, ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.
