Why reading matters for a writer. #3

#StephenKing's On Writing is an absolute banger of a book.

"If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that."

"Reading is the creative center of a writer’s life."

"[I]f you expect to succeed as a writer, rudeness should be the second-to-least of your concerns. The least of all should be polite society and what it expects. If you intend to write as truthfully as you can, your days as a member of polite society are numbered, anyway."

#StephenKing #OnWriting

"There is a muse, but he’s not going to come fluttering down into your writing room and scatter creative fairy-dust all over your typewriter or computer station. He lives in the ground. He’s a basement guy. You have to descend to his level"

Day #13: A song you like from the 70s.

What? You're going to ask me 1 song from 70s or 60s.

Here is just a random "1970s Rock Songs" listing. I'm in the first page, and there are so many gems!

But ok, let's go with Layla, with Eric Clapton & Duane Allman

Day #6: A song that makes you want to dance.

Ah. This is interesting. I've two left feet of stone. I can't dance. Unless I've had a few pegs too many. But I can understand the urge to dance. Like no one's watching. And here's one such song, the ever-green finale song of Dirty Dancing: (I've Had) The Time of My Life.

Day #4: A Song That Reminds You of Someone You'd Rather Forget

I don't have anyone I'd rather forget. So nothing qualifies. Instead, I'm going to go with a favorite song that talks about almost forgetting someone.

Someone That I Used To Love by Barbra Streisand

(My favorite Barbra Streisand song remains her duet with Barry Gibs: Guilty, esp when they sang it live. I love her range)

Day #2: A song you like with a number in the title.

Take Five: Dave Brubeck Quartet from the album "Time Out".

The track name hints at the unusual 5/4 time signature (like all Time Out songs) it's set in. Composed by Paul Desmond (on alto sax here) it's now a #jazz standard. For me, it was one of the gateway tracks to the world of jazz, and so special for me. Its easy melody pulls you in while you start noticing the other elements.

I have always failed these challenges so trying with the easiest one of 'em. What can be easier than posting #ASongADay, that too, to a prompt?

Day #1: A Song you like with a color in the title.

Black Magic Woman. #FleetwoodMac

Santana's cover probably made this way more popular, but for me, Peter Green's original bluesy version remains untouchable. And it took me 1.5 decades to find that (I also came to the song thanks to Santana)
