@Alexis I’m pretty sure the movie was the thing which gave her dad the name ‘Richard’. He was ‘Henshingley’ in all the games before that.

@Alexis I do blame Jolie, however, for one thing: the stuntcasting of her real life dad as her Lara’s dad.

I genuinely think this casting choice was responsible for poisoning the well of Tomb Raider with parental issues, and (very nearly) every game since has focused on Lara’s relationship with her mum or dad since. It’s boring!

@Alexis I’ve seen this movie more times than I can count. Partly because I’ve liked Tomb Raider since I was a kid, partly because, for odd rights reasons, it has a permanent place on BBC iPlayer.

So, I know many of Jolie’s weird robotic lines by heart. “I woke up this morning, and I just hated everything” is a particular favourite, which nobody in my life gets as a reference.

I have a very mild cold, but was coughing enough that I just did not sleep at all last night.

So, at just past 4AM last night, I finished #DragonQuest VI for the first time!

I was sorta lukewarm on V, but properly fell in love with VI.

The ‘Dream World’ as a central concept didn’t initally seem all that groundbreaking. However, it ends up being this potent vehicle for characters’ hopes/fears/pasts.

It might be the first of the DQ series I’ve properly loved, more than just appreciated.

I’ve not seen the latest eps yet, and am basically a Stranger Things hater at this point, but have a some thoughts on LGBT rep in the show.

I am *very* iffy on them tying Will’s sexuality with his powers. Especially as S5 opened with Young Will having something forced down his throat by Vecna, and all the blood transfusion talk.

That’s how he got powers, sure. But if powers = gay, then that’s heading into 😬 territory for me.

@Alexis When it comes to that novelty side, I think it’s also partly an issue of expectations on my end. I was pretty excited to see the Air and Fire Na’vi, and then the Windtraders are in relatively little of the film and the Ash tribe were a huge whiff for me.

Maybe I just want a Pandora encyclopaedia…

There was a time not all that long ago when, if you wanted to play all the mainline #DragonQuest games (as I do), all you needed was a 3DS.

I guess this only worked in Japan, but between the eshop releases, DS remakes and releases, and 3DS remakes and releases (including the weird cloud-streaming version of the MMO), you had the whole series covered!

Sadly, the 3DS eshop and the 3DS version of the MMO have been shut down, so this dream is no more…

@Alexis I think the fact that it, to my mind, really felt like a Pt 2 to WoW coloured my opinion of it.

I wa pretty big on WoW and, in hindsight, that may have been down to a sense of novelty that so felt was lacking in FaA.

This is sort of the reason why I rankle slightly at the prevailing wisdom that the RTD2 era is entirely thoughtless, irredeemable or 'slop'.

It's patently pretty unsuccesful in what it was trying to do, but there's plenty of weird, interesting stuff going on there.

I've decided to mark my return(?) to Mastodon with an out-there #DoctorWho take:

But isn't it interesting that Series 1 (2024) opens with a machine churning out stories raising a bunch of overgrown babies, and then ends with an embittered god squinting at a black-and-white VHS recon to uncover one inconsequential piece of information?
