Speech input is one of the missing features in #Phosh's stevia. I had looked at several possible solutions but didn't want to pull in a ton more dependencies into stevia itself.

While looking for something completely different I stumbled onto #vosk-server which runs fully locally but can be talked to via websocket and so I could punch that into the prototype I had already alying around (video has audio):

Time flies πŸš€: Exactly one year ago we had our association's founding meeting πŸ₯³.

Looking forward to the next year of developing and promoting #Phosh and the #LinuxMobile ecosystem, working towards user friendly #DigitalFreedom and #DigitalIndependence (nowadays often called #DigitalSovereignity) for the devices we carry in our pockets very day πŸ“±.

Our next booth will be at #CLT2026 in Chemnitz, meet us there.

phosh 0.53.0 is out πŸš€πŸ“±:

Special thanks to @agx for all the energy he put into #phosh in the last months of his long years of contributions to #softwarefreedom !!! 🫢

I want to thank all the contributors of @phosh for improving #softwarefreedom on mobile phones. Thank you so much for the steady progress during the last months!! ❀️❀️❀️❀️

(Transparency note: I am one of the founding members of #Phosh e.V which aims to provide a daily usable, robust and easy to use graphical user environment for mobile devices running mainline #Linux.)

#feedbackd (together with the device themes and #rust bindings) moved to https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/feedbackd/ . Many thanks to the fdo maintainers for having us!

You can also now disable the letterboxing of the video making it use the full height (at the expense of the left and right side). This can be useful on #mobile in landscape mode to make the whole video a bit larger while still preserving aspect ratio.

#Linux

One thing bothering us when playing videos with our little, mobile friendly video player #livi was that playing from video sites like #peeretube or #youtube showed very little information in #phosh's media player widget. This is now fixed on Livi's main branch where it fetches the necessary bits from #ytdlp to display a thumbnail and artist information making it a better companion to the pipeline app too.
We've improved a bunch of other things like faster seeking as well.

This one hasn't booted in a while :p

πŸ₯³ Earlier today we landed the bits in #phosh to show the splash screens of running apps in the overview. This also hopefully looks a bit more polished than the initial version. Likely not much news on other platforms but this was bugging us for some time πŸ˜…:
