For our next AI Governance virtual symposium, join us (+ Georgetown Tech Law Institute) for "Brazil's Draft AI Bill"
Ricardo Cueva and Laura Schertel Mendes interviewed by @AnupamChander + Marcela Mattiuzzo, moderated by @artp
February 3 at 11am ET
Register: https://georgetown.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_FJ1MKRLPTJuMe2rAazS9lA
Join us as we host the two ranking members of Brazil’s expert committee on AI regulation. The Senate-appointed committee held numerous public hearings and received input from industry, civil society, and academics. The draft bill it prepared as a result of that process covers transparency, copyright, discrimination, and individual rights. It seeks to learn from proposals in the U.S. and the European Union to design a model of its own that is fit for the social and legal reality in Brazil. Our panelists will explore those questions from different perspectives. Featuring: Justice Ricardo Cueva, Superior Court of Justice, Brazil Laura Schertel Mendes, Senior Visiting Researcher at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main Interviewers: Anupam Chander, Scott K. Ginsburg Professor of Law and Technology, Georgetown Law Marcela Mattiuzzo, Visiting Fellow, Information Society Project, Yale Law School Moderator: Artur Pericles, Wikimedia Fellow at the Information Society Project, Yale Law School
@ev here's my post on the kind of institutions and capacities that Mastodon needs in order to flourish: safety, facilitation/organization, and research.

@timnitGebru @alex Thank you :)
I wish NeurIPS had better publication infrastructure, but the paper's official home is here:
If you’re using cite keys on a Word document (bc that’s how you got editor feedback), how do you avoid @pandoc escaping the [@Citation] syntax when converting from .doc to other formats? #pandoc
Manual says it should be the docx+citations extension, but that’s not working for me https://pandoc.org/MANUAL.html#org-citations

Public Service Warning
Mastodon has a very big surge of new users right now. There's no way to tell if it will be sustained, but at this early point it looks similar to Nov 18 when Musk pulled the employee purge.
It is very challenging for system administration to accommodate so many new users. If your server starts to struggle, it is not broken and will get sorted out.
We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.
