O Fediverso (Mastodon, Pixelfed etc.) enfrenta um desafio interessante com a descentralização. Por ser formado por mais de 42 mil domínios diferentes, o tráfego que ele gera para sites externos aparece disperso nas estatísticas como “outros”, nunca como uma fonte consolidada.

Isso faz com que, aos olhos de gestores e tomadores de decisão, o Fediverso pareça irrelevante — mesmo quando, na prática, gera tanto ou mais tráfego que redes como o Instagram.

O autor analisou dados reais e, ao agregar manualmente as visitas vindas de instâncias federadas, o Fediverso apareceu entre as principais fontes de tráfego. O problema não é a falta de engajamento, mas a falta de visibilidade nas métricas.

Sem essa visibilidade, instituições públicas, veículos de comunicação e criadores de conteúdo deixam de investir no Fediverso — não por má vontade, mas porque os números não mostram seu real impacto.

A aposta nas mídias acaba sendo orientada por evidências quantitativas, não basta só nosso ativismo.

We plan to disable the "live feeds" of the local and federated timelines on mastodon.social within in the next couple of weeks. They are already disabled on mastodon.online. While these feeds can be useful on smaller, topical or regional servers, they have limited use on larger servers like ours.

The live feeds present all content on the server immediately and essentially pre-moderation, which presents a particularly poor experience to new users finding the fediverse for the first time.
