#penplotterIt's quite convenient to consult this thing before leaving the house. And know what's to come. I still love to combine the old with the new and especially the resulting contrast.
The integrated ESP chip fetches the forecast from a script on my webserver, which is then displayed on the custom scale. The part count is surprisingly small. Also surprising is that it worked without a glitch for six years and is still going strong.
A little project I made in 2016. An old panel voltage meter converted into a weather forecast. A tap on the casing gets it going - like grandpa used to do with the barometer. The needle shows the best and worth to come in the next 12 hours.
#iot #computerart #maker #showandtell #hackingAccording to the leaflet in the box, the device was sold for 185 DM and the rotation nibs for 7 to 11 DM. I don't know when it was bought, and neither able to find any further information about the tool online.
The device was manufactured by ITC Tokyo and distributed by Willy A. Mahler in Bad Honnef, Germany.
The enclosed german manual (scan under:
https://archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22liner+z%22) revealed that the tool can be used to draw different lines: When the lever is pressed down while the device is pushed forward, the pen transfers ink onto the ink roller from which it is transfered to the rotating nib.

I found this little box last Christmas underneath the tree; A gift from my loving wife. It contained drawing ink, a Rotring technical pen, ink rollers, rotation nibs and some sort of a tool.
If you ever wondered, how precise dotted and dashed lines were drawn before the time a
#penplotter was accessible...
I uploaded a scan of the German manual of the photo plot attachment to the Internet Archive:
