Open source GIS, web maps, humanitarian response, occasionally all at the same time

🌍 World GIS Day: We are releasing a global satellite dataset of road surfaces for humanitarian routing & monitoring infrastructure change.

Paved vs. unpaved roads worldwide, based on high-res imagery to support better routing, accessibility mapping & planning where data is scarce.

β€œThe generosity of the group in directly funding the software projects is greatly appreciated, and helps maintain the ongoing sustainability of QGIS”.

Nyall Dawson, Director, North Road

Do you have a open source geo project that could benefit from funding? https://uk.osgeo.org/gofundgeo.html

I’ve rebuilt and updated Public Rights of Way tiles for England and Wales, showing (almost!) every footpath, bridleway and byway, under a licence that allows inclusion in OpenStreetMap. Includes a new Natural England data release with pretty much all of England outside the major conurbations. Map browser and details: https://osm.cycle.travel

#FOSS4GUK 2025 is a wrap. It was an amazing experience and outstanding success. All of our speakers did so well to represent the spirit of OSGeo and #FOSS4G. Our greatest achievement was to welcome so many first time delegates and presenters to carry the torch and define us as a community, diverse, and united. We are looking forward now and hope that our local chapter, with your support, will be given the opportunity to invite you back to the UK for #FOSS4G2027 🌍🌎🌏β™₯οΈπŸ«‚
