IT bod. VM, Storage. Interests: Guitars, tech, silliness. Views: Mixed but clearing later.

I work at a Uni and am responsible for Servers, Storage, VMware and other associated infrastructure functions. Opinions/views/images are all my own.

Here is a list of things that interest me and, on the whole, make my life better:

"It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever"
@tim_parkinson it does seem unlikely.

What a lovely day. Here's my bottle of Henderson's Relish that was in my desk drawer that I couldn't find the key for. Amusingly access was gained by lifting up the top of the drawer, rendering the lock useless...

I gave the bottle to a colleague on my last day, 28 February 2025. Take a look at the Best Before date.

*edit - this is a limited edition bottle from The Rutland Hotel on Glossop Road, 5 minutes from my former office.

Bar Tailed Godwit called "234684" by humans is one of the worlds most notrious private binge flyers. At 5 months old, they racked up a non-stop 11 days straight binge private flight from #Alaska to #Tasmania recording 13,560km worth of frequent flier points.

A bird weighing about 500 grams that can neither swim nor glide, relying on constant beating of their wings to stay aloft, can fly almost twice as far as the original jumbo jet, and consumes a few hundred grams of fat to do so.

They also have specially adapted eyes that literally allow them to see the magnetic field of the Earth to guide them, as well as using celestial navigation by the stars at night.

Frikkin binge-flying bird-brains.

The view in the other direction. Lovely leaves.

The tyranny of the leaf-blower.

I've seen the elderly chap diligently blowing the leaves from the pavement, and the bit of grass-verge in front of his house, into the road and also further up the pavement to the boundary of the next house. The futility lost on him as with the next gust of wind it'll all be rearranged.

I heard a professional gardener talking about research that says a rake requires only slightly less effort, plus you can create leafmould to use a soil conditioner.

@treehouseofhorror it's the Telegraph framing the narrative there in their typical style, the story is nothing like that from other media outlets.
Livestream happening now. The Eurovision Song Contest style intros are a nice touch, great fun. Farage would probably be apoplectic, European harmony and nobody moaning about made up bullshit.

Watching the European TramDriver Championship. It is great.

Twenty-six teams from twenty-one nations compete in six disciplines for the popular Cup. In addition to titleholder Vienna and host Frankfurt, teams from Barcelona, โ€‹โ€‹Birmingham, Bratislava, Brussels, Budapest, Dublin, Edinburgh, Gothenburg, Kyiv, Krakow, Leipzig, Luxembourg, Lyon, Milan, Oradea, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Tampere, Zagreb, and Zurich take part of the competitions.

Did you know - Dan was in a band called The Iguanas, which is where Iggy Pop got his name as he was also in the same band. #IggyPop
