988 hotline linked to thousands fewer youth suicide deaths since launch, study finds

Nearly 4,400 fewer U.S. teens and young adults died by suicide than projected in the first two-and-a-half years of the 988 mental health crisis hotline, a sign the program is working even as it faces long-term funding challenges.

U.S. Soldier Charged With Using Classified Information To Profit From Prediction Market Bets

The Justice Department announced today the unsealing of an indictment charging Gannon Ken Van Dyke, a U.S. Army soldier, with unlawful use of confidential government information for personal gain, theft of nonpublic government information, commodities fraud, wire fraud, and making an unlawful monetary transaction. The charges arise from an alleged scheme in which Van Dyke used

@dnanian That's about how long mine took a while back. I was surprised when they estimated 4 weeks, and definitely not thrilled when it took way more than that, seemingly mostly while they waiting for the paint work. (Also kinda gobsmacked at the cost, but fortunately the other driver's insurance paid. And fortunately it happened in a period when I didn't need my car much.)
I just saw this in @weeklyOSM : Create printable pre-styled map posters of #OpenStreetMap data. Really nice themes and easy UI to adjust options. https://terraink.app/

Men, take a moment to understand how to position your body in space to communicate a message. Whether this photo was a choice or cluelessness, it's equally bad.

I was the only man in a woman led tech start-up once. Being the nominal CTO, I occasionally had to accompany our CEO into meetings or presentations.

I knew the panel would look at me even though she was the boss. This would be bad for everyone. It was demeaning to our CEO, embarrassing for the panel, and awkward for me.

To avoid setting everyone up for failure, I did a few subtle things (mostly through body language).

I stood in a way so she was always slightly in front, sometimes just by a diagonal turn of the shoulder. If seated, I'd angle my chair to be less prominent or slide down lower on purpose. I did things to make engaging with me to be more effort.

I'd tell her in advance that I was just going to run the slides unless she name checked me because she needed help.

This happened to me fairly recently at UW urgent care in Ballard. I was unprepared for that, but said I'd prefer not, and they didn't push back or question it.

Not entirely sure how I feel. I don't want to make anyone's task harder. I for one struggle to converse while taking notes, or to remember accurately for notes afterwards. But writing notes does make me think. And the post observes that note-taking involves reflection and mental engagement; that resonates with me at least to an extent.
