For the sixth oil painting in my classic RPG series, I painted another scene from Chrono Trigger, this time featuring Magus and Schala. In this blog post, more on the painting itself and my aim for the right emotional impact with it (more at the link). #chronotrigger #fanart #art #painting #artist

Chrono Trigger Painting | Magus and Schala in Zeal Palace - Amdall Gallery

For the sixth oil painting in my classic RPG series, I painted another scene from Chrono Trigger, this time featuring Magus and Schala in Zeal Palace. The Zeal plotline in Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite parts of the game, following Magus' journey through time and his search for his sister. You could argue that Schala's role and Magus' journey are central to the entire story, shaping events and connecting time periods. I felt like this would be a great scene to attempt, but a challenging one. Trying to capture the right emotional tone was definitely at the front of my mind when trying to figure out the composition.

My latest classic game inspired painting blog post, this one featuring a couple of characters from Final Fantasy IV, Rydia and Cecil, sitting with a chocobo nearby. Another of my favorites, and I really enjoyed painting my interpretation of the characters. #finalfantasy #fanart #painting

Final Fantasy IV Painting | Rydia, Cecil, and a Chocobo - Amdall Gallery

My latest classic game inspired painting features a couple of characters from Final Fantasy IV, Rydia and Ceil, sitting with a chocobo nearby. I've done a couple now from the Final Fantasy series already, so it felt like a must to get into this one. I talked about how much of a game-changer Final Fantasy VI's story was, but really I think Final Fantasy IV was the first game I recall that provided this sort of complex, movie-like plot. This piece was a bit tricky to conceptualize though, as I always preferred Cecil's dark knight design to his paladin change in the second half of the game. I did try to capture the vibe of some of the forested areas of the game, and definitely enjoyed painting the chocobo peeking around the corner.

I have long enjoyed tinkering around the edges of the technology and software world. I haven't shared much on this site lately other than paintings, but over the past year, I built an app to track my art and some dashboards to share stats. (more in the post) #app #appsheet #dashboard

This blog post is all about my fondness for nature scenes as backgrounds in my portraits. It's a concept I deploy often in oil paintings, but one I keep coming back to. Probably in many ways inspired by Bob Ross' Joy of Painting. #art #painting #artist

Concerned Man with Oceanside Village Landscape - Art print of an oil painting. Going back a few months, I forgot to add this one to the website! This painting print of a man in front of the ocean is now on the website store (available via etsy). #art #print #painting

Concerned Man with Oceanside Village Landscape, Giclee Art Print - Amdall Gallery

Concerned Man with Ocean Village Landscape - Art print of an oil painting. I had originally hoped to create a scene with several people in front of an oceanside village. As I started working in the underpainting, I realized I didn't really have space for additional people if I wanted any of the landscape to be visible. I was on a scenic ocean overlook kick at the time, so I didn't want to sacrifice that aspect. But I was able to add one additional person sort of off to the side. I wasn't sure if this would unbalance the piece too badly, but I was hopeful the shape of the bay would focus the gaze towards the right a bit. I like this piece quite a bit and actually framed and hung up the original.
