I'll tell you hwat, for new people (or old returning people) to Mastodon, once you get your feet under you, check out Tusky (android) and/or Phanpy (web).

Really great alternative clients for Masto with tons of amazing features and quality of life improvements that can sooth annoyances or make things work more to your liking.

Tusky is breddy good.

The last time I messed with Masto things were a lot more primitive. Good to see major progress from first and third parties.
