A scene introducing a new character, 'Kerong', in my historical fantasy WIP.
I've tried to make the scene read like a short story.
A horse-drawn wagon trudges through the muddy outback, loaded with cargo for the next town. Deliveries have been going without a hitch for a little too long, and the scent of highwaymen is in the air.

I've just discovered Twine, a cool program for making interactive stories. They save as webpages, so to play, there's no installs or downloads needed. Was pretty excited to find this tool.

I stood beside the cafe, sipping at my coffee cup and watching the rain beat down over the park across the street.
The cup was empty.
Just a prop so as not to attract too many concerned looks of the people shuffling past. My aim was to go simply unseen, like a huddled smoker on a street corner might.
Without interruption I just wanted to enjoy the brisk fresh air, the chill at my ears, and the coziness of my thick woolen jacket pulled tight.
Man, I've missed being able to go outside.
