@randahl In Germany, you get a letter a few weeks before the election. It has a QR code that you can scan to request voting by mail. Election day is usually a Sunday so that the largest amount of people get a chance to go and participate. The news media starts exclusively covering the topic of migration for a few weeks before going back to more important topics after the election.

@kantorkel Dasselbe Argument kann man für den Schutz der eigenen Wohnung machen. Klar wäre es für die Polizei leichter, wenn sie einfach deine Tür aufbrechen und sich mal in deinen Privaträumen umschauen könnte. Aber das erfordert aus gutem Grund einen Verdacht und einen richterlichen Beschluss.

@tazgetroete Aus meiner Sicht ein Thema, bei dem man im öffentlichen Diskurs nur verlieren kann, vor allem wenn man extreme Positionen einnimmt.

Damit wird die Linke jedenfalls keine Wahlen gewinnen, egal welche konkrete Position da am Ende bei rauskommt.

Okay, democracy is great. You get to elect your own leaders and representatives and shit, what's not to like about that?

But then, isn't it also important to make sure these elected officials can be held accountable? If you elect your own leaders but they can then do whatever they want, including ignoring the law, is that really so different from an autocracy?
