Congratulations to Miljenko Jergović, winner of the 2026 Leipzig Book Award for European Understanding.

This year’s Leipzig Book Fair motto, “Donau”, captures how deeply Europe is connected along the river’s route from the Black Forest to the Black Sea. The history of Central and Eastern Europe has unfolded along this river and is inseparable from the region’s cultural diversity. #LBM26

Meet our Fellow Claudia Zini ✨ Based in Sarajevo, she curates safe spaces where people come together to learn from artists who survived war & genocide, and explore how art can help process violence & trauma.
As an Allianz Foundation Fellow, Claudia aims to explore how the methodologies she developed in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be responsibly translated to a wider European context. She will focus on ethical, trauma-informed art connections between war-torn societies such as Bosnia & Ukraine.

We shared the Next Generations Study with Solidarische Vernetzung Sachsen and Kohäsion Ost last week. The big surprise: sustainable, more‑than‑growth futures appeal across left, centre, and right and collective civic action among young people is rising. Grateful for the space for exchange.

But our second Next Generations Study shows the story is more complex. Younger generations across Europe feel it too.

The idea that young people dream of a high‑tech future is way off.

According to the new Next Generations Study, only 6% of young Europeans want their country’s future to be shaped mainly by technological progress. Their priorities lie elsewhere. Curious where?

Today, in Jänschwalde, Germany, a giant relic of coal mining history was brought down in a dramatic controlled blast, collapsing in seconds amid thunderous detonations and towering clouds of dust. The steel colossus fell like a dying titan, marking the upcoming end of the fossil era!
