Deep fried lasagne at the new wine bar that apparently opened up overnight below my apartment…
ME: (coming back to like 30 new notifications) Oh no, a hit toot.
Mac will never admit that the Ruin got him addicted to Love Island…
@bloodwrites @thedeadparrot Right? Every now and again I get comments on some of my old fics that are basically like “I first read this in middle school and am now so glad I’ve found it again as an adult!!!” and then I immediately have to go lie down and die of old age because… ooof.
@bloodwrites Yeah, like. I think that old school version of fandom also had a lot of, uh. Problems? In ways that I’m glad people put in the work to call out and make at least less acceptable, if not entirely gone.
But yeah I could definitely do without the aggressive and puritanical streak in a lot of modern fandom, hey… @bloodwrites Serious answer: Around the early 2010s I think was when I really noticed the shift? It was in that period where stuff went from "here is the Hill I Will Die On about Thing" (wank) to "my Hill is the Correct Moral One to Die On about Thing and if you do not you are Wrong and Bad and also a Bigot" (discourse).
And it wasn't just fandom, but followed that general pop culture thing, post-Obama and pre-MAGA backlash, of "woke" being marketable? Particularly with a whole wave of what we'd now call influencers popping up as a Professional Take Havers on Twitter or whatever.
Like I think there are other factors to the point you could write a whole dissertation on it, probably, but that's the kind of... high-level vibes summary. Mum made this quilt for Nana in her nursing home, I think? It was originally cream and lilac until I got to it and, well. Now it has a cosy new life!
Also wasn’t kidding about the theming, hey. Like can’t read my aftercare instructions because I can’t make eye contact with this asshole…
Aaaaand done. The worst part was the crunching noise, not gonna lie. And having to be all brave and stoic while Mum (and the Shadow the Hedgehog poster on the ceiling) judged me.
