If you want to see something fun with #Apple App Store ads, search for “Microsoft Authenticator”. That’s the name of Microsoft’s MFA app and the default option for Office 365 users.

The first option is “Authenticator App”, which has a similar icon and UI to Microsoft’s app. The correct app is the second listing.

The fact that searching for the *exact app name* doesn’t make that app the first result is INFURIATING.

But please, let’s put more ads in the App Store. https://nileane.fr/@nileane/115745682694496757

It’s been like this since the first iOS 26 beta. This post is from the day of the WWDC announcement with a comparison next to iOS 18. https://www.threads.com/@andrewclaretech/post/DKsMP1epmA_

@atpfm @caseyliss @marcoarment @siracusa Synology now officially says as of DSM 7.3 that non-validated third party drives will be supported in Plus, Value, and J-Series models.

They also add "Synology is currently collaborating closely with third-party drive manufacturers to accelerate the testing and verification of additional storage drives, and will announce more updates as soon as possible."

Talking with some friends who've updated to iOS/iPadOS/macOS 26, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive so far.

@marcoarment kind of nailed the "we don't like it, but the public will probably like it a lot" take over the summer.

@siracusa @marcoarment @caseyliss @atpfm Went on a house tour today and the owners were apparently big fans of John.

Here’s the simplest answer: Anthropic’s valuation is $61B, Perplexity is $14B.

If the goal of Apple is to be the best model integrator, Perplexity is a steal.

If they want to own a leading frontier model to compete with OpenAI, they’re going to need to spend up to buy Anthropic.

As of March 2025, Apple has $48.5B in cash on hand. They can’t buy Anthropic straight up, they can buy Perplexity.

IMO, Perplexity makes more sense overall. @viticci https://mastodon.macstories.net/@macstories/114728202589063514

It's quite nice that Apple allows different accounts for iMessage/iCloud and the App Store. I sign into a beta account for iMessage/iCloud (precisely to avoid possible iCloud data corruption) and my regular account for the App Store to download my apps.

I'm always a little surprised that the @[email protected] guys (@[email protected] in particular) aren't more wary about installing a beta version of macOS/iOS/etc given the possibility of having iCloud data or settings hosed by beta software.

Honestly, the best change #Apple could make for the next #iOS and #macOS updates is to unbundle the core apps from the OS updates.

There’s no reason* that Mail, Messages, or Photos couldn’t be updated via the App Store on a much more regular basis.

*the actual reason is that there wouldn’t be anything to talk about in the OS updates without those, so lol

And seeing Apple “bend the knee” to Trump and then fight the EU are actually the same thing: ensuring Apple makes the most money. Trump accepts checks. The EU doesn’t, so they get the fight.

The cool, quirky Apple is gone. It’s been gone. This is one of the most profitable companies in the world and they don’t maintain that by giving up revenue streams, regardless of your feelings on those streams.

Google does evil. Apple lost their morals. Microsoft is still Microsoft. Money and power won.
