Dear researchers,
I am sick of #Elsevier and their antics (ridiculous APCs, inaccessible articles, unauthorised data-mininig, etc.) and want to avoid publishing with them as much as possible.

Can you suggest good journals in the following topics / fields (society journals welcome):

1. #microalgae
2. #molecularbiology
3. #crispr
4. #sustainability

Please #boost so I can reach other academics.

What's with this "only EU software to establish EU tech sovereignty" argument?

If the #EU country where a software was developed pulls a "Brexit"-like stunt, will you stop using that software?
Conversely, if a useful software (licensed and compliant with AGPLv3) was made in a non-EU country; say India or Kenya, will you still reject it?

#techsovereignty can only be achieved by developing, promoting, (and sometimes mandating) #freesoftware , and enforcing its license.

Dear Researchers,
Can any of you suggest reliable facilities either in the US or Ireland that do whole genome #sequencing (PacBio + Illumina) or (Nanopore+Illumina)? I need to sequence a few of my #microalgae

I am going to miss home so much!
Goodbye #India. See you again in a few years.

A fancy model won’t magically compensate for poor understanding of your data.

A VERY common mistake in data analysis is jumping to complex solutions too early. AI has made this even easier by making sophisticated tools extremely accessible.

Sometimes, a linear model or a PCA already tells you most of the story.

Complexity has its place.
But using it too early often masks problems instead of solving them.

Often, the real bottleneck is not the model.
It’s how little we understand our data.

Do you include / read #phd theses as part of your literature search?

We downloaded 154 PhD and MSc theses (Bioscience) across repositories from different institutions. Only 10 could be accessed by a screen-reader without errors, and only one had colour-blind friendly graphs.

Other common issues:
1. Index elements and reference were not navigable.
2. Most graphs / images were colour-blind inaccessible. No alt-text either.
3. Sloppy formatting (inconsistent fonts, text-colour, and too many grammatical errors).

Happy Maharashtra Day!

It's the day the State of Maharashtra was formally defined out of its previous #colonial "Bombay State" under the Bombay Reorganisation Act, 1960 enacted by the Parliament of India on 25 April 1960.

I don't care for #emacs or #vim , I use #nano . Am I smooth-brained for saying this? I don't care.

I type. Code run. Me happy.

Should I enter the tenure-track rat-race, but of just work at the zoo and specialise working with Otters?
