Movim – Responsive web-based cross-platform XMPP client

Movim is a kickass distributed blogging and messaging platform built on the industry-standard XMPP protocol

@strypey yeah, deltachat + chatmail is like reinventing the wheel, we already had xmpp, so why not contributing to it instead.
@anon_4601 @lafleur you are using core internet protocols every day that has been developed and now coordinated by USA organizations: ICANN, IANA, IETF.

It seems that process has now come full circle. To use Delta Chat, people are expected to set up a dedicated email account for it, and connect to a specialist server running their ChatMail package or something similar. So it has no UX advantage to balance out the many disadvantages it has compared to XMPP or Matrix apps.

Thanks DC, it's been a good run. Guess I better start looking through F-Droid for another mobile email app. Any recommendations?

Google announced that as of September 2026, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google. This registration will involve:

- Paying a fee to Google
- Agreeing to Google’s Terms and Conditions
- Providing government identification
- Uploading evidence of the developer’s private signing key
- Listing all current and future application identifiers

@deadsuperhero @alexchapman Both matrix and xmpp are fediverse messengers. You have to pick up a server to join. I don't see any difference here.
@deadsuperhero @alexchapman Why would a noob need to setup a server? 🤔 Anyways, I don't see how matrix is easier to setup (client or server) than xmpp. And afaik, xmpp server installation & maintenance is much easier than matrix server.

The UK has announced plans to fast-track legislation requiring “age verification for VPN use”. The correct term, however, is not age verification but identity verification.

A law like this would require everyone to identify themselves in order to use a VPN. This would pose a risk to whistleblowers, violate human rights, and represent yet another step toward an authoritarian society.

@ecosdelfuturo Of course you can. Those will be applied to server operators. As an example, the largest matrix server, matrix.org (based in UK), will be required to apply age verification: https://matrix.org/blog/2026/02/welcome-discord/
