Homelabs + smart homes, ADHD-optimized.
Developer. Automator. Chronic system-tweaker.
No yelling. No gatekeeping. Just better systems.

Is this necessary?
Debatable.

Is this exactly the kind of infrastructure rabbit hole an ADHD homelab enthusiast falls into?
Absolutely.

Hubitat becomes the local brain for everything.
Goal:
⚡ Lights that react instantly
📡 Sensors that stay connected
🧠 Automations that survive internet outages

Zigbee and Z-Wave build mesh networks.
More devices = stronger network.
Which means faster automations and fewer “why didn’t anything happen?” moments.
#Zigbee #ZWave #SmartHome #IoT
Why? Because Wi-Fi smart devices love the cloud… and the cloud loves breaking at the worst possible moment.
Local protocols don’t ask the internet for permission to turn on a light.

ADHD hyperfocus mode activated. 🧠⚡
I’ve decided to replace every Wi-Fi outlet, motion sensor, and contact sensor in my house with Zigbee or Z-Wave versions and move everything to Hubitat.

This didn't make me punctual.
It removed the background cognitive load of tracking time manually — so my brain can spend that energy on actually doing things.

ADHD Time Chaos? This Home Assistant Automation Finally Solved My Schedule Problems

ADHD time blindness is real. Here’s how I use Home Assistant and Alexa to automate reminders and stay (almost) on time.

The full notification stack:
🔊 Alexa announcement when I'm home (zone condition)
📱 ntfy push notification to my phone — always, regardless of location
One automation handles both. If you prefer Pushover or Simplepush, the pattern is identical — just swap the notify service.
🧠 ADHD Brain Note: The best infrastructure is the kind you set up once and never think about again.

The automation fires at -60, -30, -15, and -5 minutes before each event.
Why four offsets instead of one?
Because ADHD time isn't linear.
⏰ 1 hour out = abstract concept
⏰ 15 minutes = okay this is happening
⏰ 5 minutes = body, we are LEAVING
It also speaks the event name — not just "something is starting soon."
Context is the whole point.

Step 1: Publish your Fastmail calendar as a read-only ICS URL.
Step 2: Add it to HA via the Remote Calendar integration (CalDAV is gone in 2026 — this is the new way).
Step 3: Your calendar events are now first-class HA entities — usable as triggers, conditions, and data sources.
⚠️ Gotcha: Zenarmor flagged https://s.adhdhomelab.com/sJYe as malware. Whitelist it first or nothing will sync.
