Yes, donors may be thinking about tax incentives this time of year, but rarely is that why a donor gives to your organization. Your year-end communication can emphasize the benefit to the donors giving by December 31st, but lead with how their gift makes a difference 365 days a year.

Ok, there's a third mistake... no thank you message today at all.

They good news is you still have time. TOMORROW, send a thank email (or call) your #GivingTuesday donors:

1. Say thank you.
2. Don't ask for anything.
3. Share how their gift is already at work, and provide a tangible example.

The day after #GivingTuesday is more important than the actual day. How you communicat to your donors today made all the difference to their entire donor journey. Two major mistakes I've experienced today:

1. No segmentation: "Thanks if you gave, but if not, there's still time to give," is the gist. Wouldn't you know if I gave or not?!

2. Related to number 1, the THASK (thank you/ask): I received an email with Thank You in the subject line. Opened it to a big Give Now button.
