History sometimes requires great sacrifices from a generation.
This is not a great sacrifice.

Disney pulls ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ indefinitely following Kirk comments

The network came under fire from the FCC chair and conservatives after Kimmel’s response to Charlie Kirk’s killing.

8 May 2025: Take Back Democracy. Stop the Billionaire Coup!

For billions of workers worldwide, the accelerating crises facing the world have now merged to create a moment of existential consequence. Will democracy or autocracy prevail? Will the people rule themselves or be ruled by billionaires? Will the planet endure or be made unliveable? This is not the first time the workers of the world have faced such challenging times. Eighty years ago on 8 May 1945, working people deployed by their nations forced the surrender in Europe of the fascist (…)

When #UniversalBasicIncome is discussed, the question of funding is always the 1st to be raised, and rightly so. But when Walmart announces a new store, the 1st question is not how to pay for it. In fact, the question never arises. And yet, it costs US taxpayers $6.2 billion per year to subsidise #Walmart employees, because they are not paid a living wage. Of fast food workers in the US, 52% require government assistance.

Let's talk about how to pay for #capitalism.

It’s Time to Get Billionaires Off of Welfare

Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ro Khanna write about how the wealthy profit off of the middle class

The billionaire war on #mentalhealth

If #billionaires wanted to wage war against #meditation, the armada they would launch would be indistinguishable from their social media platforms, which promote short attention and which alternate between outrage and frivolousness.

If their #socialmedia feels like an addiction — it is: once someone's attention and reasoning are damaged enough, only social media comforts. Once alcoholism has damaged your life enough, your only comfort is the next drink.

Boycotts are not about punishing billionaires by depriving them of a few billion dollars. They wouldn't notice. It's about discrediting them as business leaders. When investors look at billionaires who are losing money due to unrelated political activity, they invest elsewhere.

Unlike us, investors vote on who becomes a billionaire. What they give, they also take away, when it serves their self-interests.

The EU surrendered to Trump over trade tariffs – now it’s in danger of capitulating again

A fresh US assault is aimed at Europe’s right to regulate tech. It’s an outrage – and we must resist it, says former European commissioner Thierry Breton

#nonprofit organizations … represent a kind of “3rd way” beyond the classic rent-or-buy.

In Switzerland’s member-based cooperative #housing, new residents buy shares … The co-op uses the money to maintain the building, keep rents below market rate and, often, provide communal amenities like child care.
When a resident moves out, their shares are returned at face value. There is no capital gain.

… a commercial apartment … would be around 1000 francs more expensive
