Trying to map pathways to alternative, decolonised futures. #actuallyautistic
Pronounsthey/them
The vast majority of things I find on autistic people that is written by autistic people always seems to erase intersectionality. The only article that I've come across which begins to address the issue is this: https://www.karger.com/Article/FullText/524123

If there's anyone else who is #actuallyautistic and not white, but does anyone have any throughts on how the 'double empathy' problem through an intersectional lens?

I just know how much cultural norms make different acceptable behaviours which also play out in autistic spaces. And so I don't think it's as simple as the 'double' empathy, other factors also come into play.

Further, it parallels a couple of claims made here in @[email protected]'s article. Recommended reading, particularly re: Uluru Statement, Indigenous political history and the current enforced hegemony we're frequently expected to adhere to:

The immigration officers have left without the detained people. It is a big win. We will observe and make sure this does not change.

This disabled Syrian refugee boy promised resettlement in UK in 2018 has died waiting to be transferred while living in awful conditions in Lebanon. I raised his case with @[email protected] multiple times as did his UK lawyers. His case is not unique (THREAD) https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/an-absolute-scandal-the-syrian-teen-who-died-waiting-to-be-resettled-in-britain-b2071558.html

‘An absolute scandal’: The Syrian teenager who died waiting to be resettled in Britain

Firas, 13, who had cerebral palsy, died in February, four years after he and his family were promised a place in the UK under a resettlement programme, reports Bel Trew

I need a social media break. The neverending barrage of horror that has been the last few weeks / months / years is too much to be okay with.

I am learning to be ok with not needing to know everything.

It's hard and exhausting, adjusting to this level of noise again.
I'm really curious. Why did ubuntu.buzz block disqordia.space?

So my conclusion, thanks to input from others is that Mastodon is not a Twitter alternative. It has its own purpose and culture.

I still don't know where it fits into the broader digital ecosystem; or its purpose in the work I am to achieve, so not sure which instance to try to move to (or even if it is the right place for me).
