My post about DEF CON has been finished. It’s a bit rambling, but I didn’t do most of the contests, so there are no writeups or such.
(Also check out the rest of my site, it isn’t fully finished, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out)

A Blog

I can really tell how much some people care about others.
“You have to come inside to [crowded place] because you’ve become a recluse and keep hiding from everyone.”
Huh, I’ve also been sick for a week. Maybe I care about *not* getting others sick. But unfortunately, that logic is useless.
My site is almost working… now it’s the frustrating details of getting it to look nice on a phone. (Hint: it’s impossible)
But soon, I will have a site. It’ll mostly be a blog and a blinkie collection.

for the record.
private messages here.

really make me panic thinking what I sent was just sent publicly...

I dunno... I wish it looked really different or something ...

Defcon question time. (Please share this, it’ll help me out a lot)

For some context: I have an idea for a noob party/event at Defcon. A lot of parties require you to “know” someone to get in, and it’d be cool to have something open for anyone. It’d require help from other people if they don’t mind pitching in at the event, and I’d have to figure out cost/funding (and get it approved of course).
(Warning: there may be dumb questions below)

How much does it cost to run an event?
What about a party?

Is there a reason aside from dinner that there’s a gap in events from 6-8pm?

For the people running the event, is the cost usually out of pocket?

Can an event be run by one person or does it need to be a group doing it?

There were some events that had food, is that possible or is it really expensive?

What makes an event “good enough” to be part of Defcon?

Is there a major difference between parties and events?

Are there rules on who can have an event?

Would people even be interested in something like this anyways?

(I’m sure I forgot some things, but this is all for now)

I have a bit more time now, so I’ll start my thoughts on Defcon. Heads up, it may be a bit long.

First off, just wow. It is such an amazing experience to be able to go. Everyone there was friendly, and put up with my sometimes stupid questions. No one made me feel out of place for not knowing everything. It was a very welcoming environment, and I thank you all for that.

It was neat to see that there was something for everyone, whether it was the talks, villages, or the sticker swaps. (Stickers were the best part) The contest area was cool because it had a variety of challenges and puzzles, with varying levels of difficulty.

The part that made it beyond fantastic for me was how accepting people were. Most people didn’t assume certain things about me, and it was noticed and appreciated. I wish I never had to leave, but alas, I have to wait another 359 days.

Does anyone know of someone who’d be willing to let me ask questions about running an event/party at @defcon?
I have an idea for a noob party/event since there wasn’t a whole lot for new people, and it’d be a fun way to meet other people without expectations of being an experienced hacker.

Hi all, sorry for the silence for a bit, it’s been tricky to manage multiple platforms and plan for Defcon all at once. But now it’s calmer, so I’ll work on being more active here again. Defcon was beyond my expectations, and I already have ideas for things I’d like to have next year.

Hey. So as major platforms start to fall apart, don't necessarily look for the next big one.

Dust off your blog.

Go back to establishing web-rings.

RSS feeds. Remember those?

This is the way to share good stuff. You don't need a centralized platform for that.

As hams, we should know that.

How to tell the @defcon info site is made by hackers: it doesn't work in light mode.

I stumbled upon a light mode user (oh, the horror) who couldn't figure out why there were no words. Might be something to improve upon for next time.
