Fun April Fools prank suggestion for the FBI: give me all of the records responsive to my FOIAs at once, unredacted. It would be sooooo funny! Like, I wouldn't even know what to do! What a great prank. Yep!

NB: foia.gov has differing numbers for requests "backlogged" (208,282) vs requests "pending" as of the end of FY2023 (375,927), not sure why!

However, the cross-government backlog also reached an all-time high: 375,927 backlogged #FOIA requests, an increase of *~82%* from FY2022

New FY2023 #FOIA stats have been posted re the cross-government performance.

The number of FOIA requests received & processed across the federal government reached all time highs: 1,199,644 requests received and 1,122,166 requests processed (the latter is an increase of ~28% from FY2022)

Great #FOIA decision out today from the DC Circuit affirming that the foreseeable harm standard has teeth when it comes to Exemption 8, building on the precedent set by RCFP in Exemption 5 context. Congrats to @JasonLeopold & his counsel!
