There was a wooden framed couch in my uncle's holiday cottage we visited as kids in the 80s He donated it to me and J when we moved into an unfurnished house in 2010. Already rickety.
In 2016 we bought a bigger couch, I sanded it all back, yacht varnished it, turned it into a garden couch. Bit dodgy though.
It's finally succumbing to the elements. But one of my favourite fungi, Fomes fomentarius, or the hoof fungus, has taken hold.
J asked me to grab something from her car - got there and wondered where all the feathers had come from. Then notice the sparrowhawk about 3 metres away, glaring at me and trying to decide how close is enough to warrant abandoning dinner. Quietly took a snapshot and left it to it.
The stencils didn't fit on top, so upside down 'V's as arrows.
Mastodon update seems to have nuked access to favs and bookmarks, so hat tip to whoever I stole this gag from yesterday.
Still need to drill the ventilation and power supply holes, but pretty much there on the #AllSkyCamera refurb after 6 years of constant abuse by Scottish weather, which is, shall we say, "non-trivial".
Needs a new dome, simple purchase from https://allskyoptics.com , who sponsored the project via discounts and support. But a tough bit of amateur kit.
In other news, the dandelions are out. Fascinating plants in many ways. Mastodon will come to fear my botany powers...
Every reference to the Moon geography (selenography?) I'm glancing up at my own photo of the Moon and seeing fewer and fewer reference points. This is cool. #Artemis
Most of the #AllSkyCamera gubbins in place. Not often I get to cut threads (for mounting the heat sink with bolts), so that was fun. Need to find a way to ensure the Pi doesn't short against the sink. To do: power supply fitting, bolt and seal dome, weatherproof vents (going to try designing and printing my own).
And speaking of the Pi, doing well for 6 years of harsh conditions, but showing it. Going to test it to failure 👏
Heat sink for the #AllSkyCamera refurbishment, salvaged from a stove fan. Happens to be exactly the right height for the new case and dome. Weatherproof vents and a fan will blow cold air across it.
Grr. Manly welding gauntlets, for manly activities, like welding. Note too that they're not gloves. They're *gauntlets*, cos this is fabric armour.
Wait...have we been wearing Powerpuff Girls (or similar?) gloves with an extra felt layer all along?! I've long suspected the welding/Brony overlap is strong 🤣
First day of the school holidays. So firing the tandoor up as per tradition. A couple of aubergines as it got all flamey coming up to temp (so baba ganoush, the only acceptable use of an aubergine in my book), then chicken tikka skewers followed by chicken legs, thighs, wings as it cooled a bit. Plus kachumba salad thing and shop bought naan, but done in the tandoor. Homemade naan done properly remains an objective, but damn is that an aquired skill.
