Protect People not Borders. Fertig.
If you want to deep dive into necropolitics this is some recommended readings:
1). "The Illegal Traveller" by Khosravi
2). "Necropolitics" by Membe
3). "Colonial management of death: To be or not to be dead in Palestine." by Daher-Nashif
We observe daily how the EU outsources the killing of migrants through its border policies in the Mediterranean. While states used to demonstrate their power by killing citizens more overtly in the Middle Ages, they now affirm their sovereignty more subtly. This involves creating conditions in which death is likely to achieve their goal of border control. Exposure to the dangers of the Mediterranean serves as a substitute for state execution, warning others seeking safety of the risks they face.
With no legal ways of entering Europe left to people on the move, because the EU rather let's people willingly die and applies human rights selectively, it is up to civilians to hold up human rights and support people on the move. Because people do not let people drown.
Please consider supporting our next rotation by making a donation. It makes a difference. For someone out there it might make make the difference between living or dying.
Check your own privileges - and then act on it. No one tries to cross the meditarranean in unseaworthy boats out of nothing. It is due to power politics, colonial history and neoindustrial exploitation by western countries, it is due to wars which are heavily supplied by western war industry and due to climate change that people are on the move.
Change begins with us and what we do, how we act, speak, care for and stand up for each other. ANY DAY.
Feminist struggles are borderless. None of us is free, unless every Flinta* person is equally free.
Feminist fights and solidarity with Flinta* are needed ANY DAY! Not only on March 8th! We need to keep that in mind ANY DAY. We need to be aware of the patriarchy and its power dynamics, its injustice and the violence and oppression it causes ANY DAY. We need to fight for change, protect Flinta* and moving forward in solidarity. Not just once a year. Protesting last Sunday and speaking up was nice, but should lead to lived action and everyday practices.
No ship can go out without all of that! Thanks to our hard working crew and all that support us.
No sea rescue without you – your donation makes a difference and helps us support people in distress in the Mediterranean, as is both ethically and legally required. Donation link in bio.
And what else has been happening? A lot! We're still in dry dock in Licata with the Sea Punk I, and many hardworking hands are working daily to complete the maintenance and repairs. The mandatory inspection is coming up soon. As soon as we've passed it and received all the necessary certificates, we can head out on rotation again. This is all, too, part of civil sea rescue: repairs, inspections, certificates.
Fight Racism. Save Lives! You can support us helping people in distress at sea and fight Europes deadly border policy in the Mediterranean with a donation. Sea rescue operations cost money. Not doing them, costs lives. Your donation makes a difference! Link in Bio.
