How to migrate from one server to another

With the sad news that KNZK was shutting down we thought it might be useful for people to have a refresher on the features that Mastodon has built in that make moving instances easy and painless. Backing up Your Data Data export If you are moving to a new instance the first thing you will want to do is to get a backup of all of your data. Thankfully this process is painless with the Data Export tab under the “Import and Export” page.

@GossiTheDog for those who may not know how to read this, the tool reports how many trackers are being foisted on you by each platform, and this is what it found:
* Mastodon (cyberplace.social): 0
* Twitter: 13
* Facebook: 26
* LinkedIn: 114
With Twitter's collapse, funders should start helping build up federated discourse: supporting development of better security, of moderation aids, of proposals for affordances welcoming to Black Twitter and other communities. Stop thinking top down. Start thinking emergent.
Stop thinking about how to help newspapers. Start thinking about how to help communities and culture speaking for themselves. This is a place to start.
The remarkable career of Roy Clay, Sr.

During Black History Month, we look back at the career of the mathematician and entrepreneur, who got his start in tech at HP nearly six decades ago and has since paved the way for African-Americans in Silicon Valley.

Today for #BlackFriday it is my intention to boost only #BlackJoy and #BlackMastodon folks sharing their experiences. I encourage other white folks to do the same.
Seriously loving how #BlackMastodon is hijacking this capitalist bullshit day #BlackFriday and turn it into something useful: more visability for Black people! Onwards!!

Have heard from an Iranian friend that the lion flag is actually being used by protestors as an alternative to the Islamic Republic flag (flag changed in 1980 after revolution, purge of leftists, & consolidation of Islamic Republic). So you have two parties, both at the World Cup, using it. I hope to hear from historians of Iran on the lion symbol's origins because I've always pretty strongly associated it with the monarchy

Iran plays Wales today in the World Cup. Worth remembering: 1.) Each team has police from home country w/ it (general reason is to interpret fan behavior by, e.g., IDing racist symbols/subtexts & managing fans). They will be watching the crowds; 2.) Iran fans have held signs that clearly draw from on-the-ground protests ("Women, Life, Freedom"); some hold monarchist flags (w/ lion, from pre-1979 regime millions protested to overthrow). These aren't equivalent. #WorldCup #Mahsa @[email protected]

BTW, the sun is always a female in Persian literature and folklore. I personally love this combination of an active, possibly ready to fight male lion with a supportive bright loving female sun as the symbol of my country! I think it's cute. The sword apparently was added after Islam (doesn't surprise me) and wasn't very original.
