Transportation Housing Civil Rights Healthcare

Would love a fully multimodal, housed Colorado Springs.

I cannot spell/proofread.

Follow on Instagram @CSCarsKill highlighting El Paso County, CO's state leading traffic fatalities (sadly) and @BeautifulColoradoSprings highlighting ways we can fix our roads and honor Colorado Springs' beauty.

They/Them, probably somewhere on the spectrum

@benhaube @brett @mekkaokereke There's a lot we can do to fix it...apparently Bogota has been doing a good job transitioning from being car centered to being people centered in his planning: https://www.smartcitiesdive.com/ex/sustainablecitiescollective/friday-fun-bogot-colombia-celebrates-its-15th-annual-car-free-day/1044326/

Smart Cities

@brett @mekkaokereke Streets are wide, fast, and straight which teaches people to drive through neighborhoods instead of being aware and interacting with them. And big clumsy vehicles with huge blindspots don't help.

I get little spicy about calling drivers "assholes" because we shove a lot of systemic issues onto personal responsibility. The system is bad and we can fix it but just hoping drivers will change through more enforcement isnt the answer.

@brett @mekkaokereke We design streets to prioritize cars first over every other mode of transit which makes drivers assholes. The burden of safety is on every other mode of transit. When a car sees a pedestrian at a signal they know they dont have to pay attention to the pedestrian because the pedestrian has to wait an entire light cycle to cross. They know if they see a pedestrian they have a right to hit them if they "jaywalk," they know that a bike lane is just ill defined paint.

The idea that something can't win because it's bad is a useless argument.

History has proven time and time again that dumb bad things win all the time.

Fighting for policy and basic human rights is the best way to proactively address bad stuff.

Doesn't mean we'll win because our moral argument is better but because there was energy & strategy to stop terrible stuff.

And it still doesnt mean we have the power to change anything.

@QasimRashid An exact replica of our County Commissioner meeting when one of them proposed not putting money towards feeding hungry families and instead wanted to put 1.5 million to programs that would stop out of wedlock pregnancies and two parent (heterosexual) households.

"Kyrsten Sinema spent more than $100K in campaign cash on jets, limos, luxury hotels and wine"

"In August, Sinema squashed a challenge to the “carried-interest” loophole that taxes private equity and hedge fund profits at a lower rate than other businesses. The move benefits only a handful of private-equity and hedge fund titans — most of whom are in New York and LA not Arizona which Sinema is supposed to represent. "
