Security is locking your door, privacy is not leaving the key in the lock, anonymous is walking down the street and not being identified. I like to play with Blender, Python, Rust-lang, woodworking, learning to write (good stories), and things that interest me in the moment

Now I'm wondering how many "self driving" cars are really being driven by goldfish and rats 🤔

Here’s what goldfish driving ‘cars’ tell us about navigation

When measuring intelligence, the saying goes, don’t judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree. But what about its ability to drive a vehicle?

Look I don't want to be that always cynical yelling at clouds person, but I wasn't that convinced by the @Mastodon statement. It was heavy on describing what the platform looks like right now, and extremely careful to not make any promises about the future, talk about moderation standards, or acknowledge any economic power imbalance between #Meta and the #fediverse. Also cherry-picked XMPP example over, e.g. email which has been raised by users. #threads
As a long time security professional I have grown increasingly frustrated with the snake oil and misleading claims of security vendors (pew pew pew!). We (Sophos) hold ourselves to incredibly high standards and I wrote a little manifesto outlining how we assess what we call CQ or the cyberseriousness quotient of a project. https://news.sophos.com/en-us/2023/07/03/introducing-cyberseriousness-a-manifesto-for-quality-respect-integrity-and-usefulness-in-infosec/
Introducing Cyberseriousness: A manifesto for quality, respect, integrity, and usefulness in infosec

Opening up a years-long in-house conversation about “CQ” to the wider cybersecurity world

I was gazing today at some of the books that we have www.tromsite.com/books and I was watching bits of the TROM II Documentary. I think I can retire now. I think I've done a fuck ton of work. And yet I feel like I want to do more....

I don't care if I sound cocky because I know my place in the universe and I cannot be like that, but TROM is a fucking important project. The effort that was put into those books, at least the main ones, is phenomenal. The writing, the review, the proofreading, the design. And recently the effort that was put into TROM II. That's a fuck ton of work. I can die now. I don't care, I think I've done more than possible considering that for the past years I got very little financial support.

I am going to send a few more emails today about TROM II, but at end of the day I don't care. I am so proud of what I've created over the years, and so proud of everyone who helped with these projects.

Anyway 😀
Books

DETAILS We approach a wide variety of topics through our books. Some books are small (a few tens of pages), some are huge (hundreds of pages). We discuss the evolution of trade, the impact of technology on society, language, norms, the human behavior and so forth. But all of the subjects are viewed through our …

“Can’t we all just get along?”

Yes we can.

I now have receipts thanks to the Factiva database.

The Globe and Mail covered the demise of the Titan submersible a total of 24 times in the month of June. 5 deaths, 4 of them billionaires

In the same time frame, the Globe and Mail had 2 articles covering the deaths of over 100 times the number of people from a sinking of a migrant ship off the coast of Greece (it happened within days of each other).

This is called agenda setting, where they keep telling us that the needs and interests of billionaires are important things that we should all care about while climate change and fleeing from capitalism induced misery is not.

(Updated because I found another article)
