@mariejulien The President in the US is in command of the armed forces. In other words, he's the highest on the totem pole in the military. Higher than a 5-star General. He salutes.

@raven667 Currently, it can all be traced back to Citizens United. But even before CU, the wealthy made damn sure that politicians were beholden to them. It would take herculean courage to change this.
