Some thoughts about the protest....
Honks & other expressions of support make a big difference, not just to the protestors but also to the other vehicles passing thru. It's contagious. Perhaps, when you get dropped off, ask your ride to swing round the block and pass by honking, to spur similar behavior in the other drivers. Seeding honks, if you will.
Tons of Tesla drivers were supportive and reciprocal in waving, etc. Same with municipal workers. Lots of raised fists, cheering.

Seeing lots of hot takes propelling this around the fediverse. There appear to be anecdotal "opposite takes" & I can't tell whether it's fact or fiction. I'm posting this here for my own records. Take or leave it.

She & I were in our mid-thirties, & it was in the heat of midsummer. We woke up late one morning & hurriedly pulled on our clothes to go meet our friends for another beach run. My friend's mother looked her up & down and scolded her for "having ashy knees." I was astonished, & I said something to my friend: (1/4)>>

We aren't all the same. We have differing circumstances that vary our lives immensely.
Pretending that those nuances aren't there, robs us of understanding. & I don't want the comfort of simplicity. I want to truly see.

My friend was more than patient with my cluelessness. Over time, we developed a lightly "teasing" relationship in which we could point out the differences in our lives like it was a game. We giggled at my attempts to style her hair, and at her attempts to style mine.
I learned a lot about oppression and discrimination. I learned about judgement and exclusion.
I learned that my black friend acted out of shame and fear, as a matter of practice. As a matter of survival. It was taught to her. >>
