The Return to Hand Counting booth at the Tanner Williams Cotton Festival in Wilmer, Alabama on Nov. 2, 2025 was a success. In only 5 hours we talked to two civil government officials, two candidates for public office and numerous interested citizens. Some simply nodded in agreement with hand counting ballots and passed by. A local team of election reform advocates was represented at the booth and participated by soliciting funds to pay expenses for an upcoming event.

The Alabama GOP continues to ignore the Trump movement to abandon secretive, electronic election equipment, while the Texas GOP embraces it. The Eastland County Republican Party is the latest Texas GOP executive committee to abandon electronics and adopt transparent hand counting methods. They recently joined Hays County, Gillespie County, and Dallas County in their decisions to hand count the 2026 primaries.
