What Happens for Amtrak’s Long-Distance 15 Routes Plan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXFs0acz26w

All of this is just another study. The Pioneer Route is the green line. Not only would it serve Idaho and Northern Utah, it cuts 9 hours of train travel from SEA -> SAC -> DEN, the gray line.

The Pioneer route would cut the 54 hour SEA -> SAC -> DEN trip down to 45 hours.

Would this save CO2 emissions? Plane is currently less CO2 than Amtrak because the flight is direct. But the Pioneer Route would a big corner out of the L.

Conventional peak oil happened in 1974. Fracked peak oil is on us soon - 2026 or 2027. Fracked oil fields decline quickly.

Bring back the Pioneer Route

If this summer’s unprecedented drought, scorching temperatures and wildfire smoke aren’t reasons to get serious about climate change, nothing is.  The extreme weather we’re seeing…

#Climatechange #Amtrak vs #Airplane

Flying from Seattle to Denver (SEA->DEN) typically results in lower CO2 emissions per passenger compared to traveling by Amtrak due to the higher efficiency of jets over long distances. However, this can vary based on factors like the specific aircraft used and the occupancy rates of the train.

Using diesel-electric battery hybrid engines could potentially reduce CO2 emissions for Amtrak.

My Honda CR-V emits approximately 180 grams of CO2 per kilometer, which translates to about 1,440 kilograms of CO2 for a distance of 1,600 miles (SEA -> DEN by road)

An Amtrak trip (SEA -> DEN) of 1,600 miles typically results in approximately 0.37 kg of CO2 emissions per passenger per 10 km traveled, which translates to about 0.6 metric tons of CO2 for a 1,600-mile journey

A one-way flight from Seattle (SEA) to Denver (DEN) typically emits about 0.5 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per passenger

Are any of you taking Amtrak instead of a plane?

Traveling on an Amtrak train from Denver to Seattle produces up to 72% less greenhouse gas emissions than planes and up to 83% less than solo car trips.

I'm back in Bellevue, WA after a 60 hour Amtrak ride DEN -> SCA -> SEA

I left an LoRa APRS iGate and Meshtastic node in Lakewood, CO No worries about the WA4OSH-20 SSID, it's on APRS-IS network.

I'm using Claude Cowork and Claude Chat to specify an #Amateurradio #GoBox and sync the design into my #Obsidian Vault.

I'm in Lakewood, CO visiting my Mother for a few weeks.

I look forward to checking in on the #FediFridayWinlinkNet
I have three #Winlink capable stations
1) An Explorer QRZ-1 handie talkie with a mobilinkd tnc4 that I connect with my android phone or tablet using WOAD or APRSdroid.
2) An Alinco DR-135 radio with a Repeater Builders dongle and a USB connection to my laptop.
3) A Go Box containing an Icom IC-2820, a Digirig and a mini PC.

I'm working on Winlink for LoRaAPRS.
