I haven’t posted here in months in favour of being more active on bsky so here’s an update:

- 50+ job apps done for web dev, it’s miserable out here
- picked up some skill gaps in web dev that I got recommended to learn
- training a 16.3hh clydesdale is one of the few things keeping me sane through job hunting

the plus side to sudden contract loss is that I'm doing what I should've done while job hunting earlier which is doing coding tests and just straight up more learning about how I operate

basically coming to the conclusion that a lot of the time I just have a hard time parsing questions posed by text rather than a human that can elaborate on it further

is it the anxiety that makes me awful at technical tests or did I just develop really bad habits from 10+ years of remote work

(both. it's both.)

well I lasted until September but guess who finally got hit by tech layoffs 👈👈 😎
bummer summer’s going great btw 🏄‍♂️
on a much lighter note, I’ve been on baby training assistance duty this week and learned the strat to completely send the clydesdale to the nap zone
also got to learn about a horror story from abroad where a trainer was straight up using bicycle chains as a bit

I got the fun first time pro dressage experience volunteering at OADG with the FEI stewards and hearing them talk about busting people for using wire bits

horrifying people, some equestrians are.

the cool thing about the first olympics since I got into equestrian sports is that I get to hear all the bullshit behaviour coming from "top athletes"

weird parallels to my old career goal huh except the abuse against people is straight up animal abuse under the guise of "I had a lapse of judgement I'm normally not like this I swear :("

I was right in anticipating that my riding would significantly improve between vaulting on a draft horse and practicing on a canter machine because it really showed yesterday. Got Cookie up into a forward trot without my bad habit of tensing up and getting anxious, even got to do a tiny bit of canter practice off a lunge line and sat it with much more balance than last time.

Pretty sure my friend and I sold like 6 people from the barn to try vaulting now too 😂
