My partner couldn’t really care less about technology, only that it works and doesn’t get in the way with unnecessary changes…
Yesterday Apple forced the latest update, something she wouldn’t normally really notice, but holy shit, she fucking *hates* this one so far.
This Lock Screen (even with ‘tinted’ on) made her snap though, to the extent she wanted to know who’s responsible and is now glad he’s gone lol.
I can’t overstate how much Apple fucked up to motivate that much disdain.

I am so fucking tired of surveillance capitalism.

And in what way is my: name + email + telephone + ‘marketing data’ (aka the nightmare homunculus of scraped information trying to predict and describe everything about me) NOT SENSITIVE INFORMATION?

Data that brokers make & spend billions scraping, shaping, and targeting is actually fairly fucking sensitive imo.

Of course the government won’t do anything to regulate or punish this.

But they can monster brown people & push ‘AI’, if you like?

It seems #Apple is helpfully censoring your music collection now.

I have a carefully organised and saved (not always downloaded) Apple Music Library, but listening to Hypnotize by System of a Down I noticed “asshole” was being censored 🙃

The normal version of the album has been totally removed from the Apple Music catalogue, which also seems to have completely broken the iPhone's synced library so much the song titles are missing.

We're back to physical media or piracy having the best UX.

Anyone else found MacOS Sequoia Safari (18.2) has a bug making it impossible to connect to any http url on LAN without disabling 'Non-secure Site Connections' warnings?

If you had, say, some form of media softwARR on a Synology, trying to get to it via ip:port, ie 192.168.X.X:XXXX just gives an error with no way to proceed...

Same error even with my fucking router!?

All accessible no problem with Firefox, so 100% a new Safari issue.

Maybe @caseyliss noticed lol?

Seems iMovie's library is a weird database, which has broken for me such that events won't show in the sidebar, making them inaccessible in 'Projects' view.
Screenshot shows the events in iMovie Library are visible in the main ‘Media' view, but the same events aren't in the sidebar.
I added a new test event which does work properly, suggesting the others are somehow corrupted.
Deleted prefs, reimported/duplicated/moved iMovie package contents… Nothing. Thoughts?

Always grateful for the @edinburgh newsletter. Highly recommend subscribing. Had to highlight the amazing ordering of today’s letter though, it’s a subtly powerful way of showing where the issues of inequality are most dire. Hard not to feel it even more intensely as we start to get properly cold here as well
