@Bellingcat project showcases the power of crowdsourcing satellite imagery requests!

They tasked satellites based on community input. Here's what they found:

🔹 Nagorno-Karabakh: Ongoing demolition and construction in contested region

🔹 Sudan: Evidence of conflict and flooding in Sennar and Al Fashir

🔹 North Korea: Updated view of Kwan-li-so 25 political prison camp

🔹 Myanmar: Illegal gold mining expansion in Homalin border region

🔹 Syria: Changes in Al Hawl refugee/detention camp

This collaboration demonstrates the value of open-source investigations and community engagement in uncovering global developments.

From Mauritius to Sudan, You Told Us Where To Look. Here Are the Results - bellingcat

Satellite imagery is increasingly used by open source researchers to analyse conflict, natural disasters, mining activities and even construction work. With the help of Planet Labs PBC and Umbra Space, Bellingcat can take a snapshot of anywhere in the world by “tasking” their satellites to take an image at up to 25-centimetre resolution. ⚠️ Bridging the Air Gap: Advanced Hacking Group Targets Isolated Networks

ESET researchers have uncovered two sophisticated toolsets developed by the GoldenJackal APT group, designed to compromise air-gapped systems. These isolated networks, typically used in critical infrastructure, voting systems, and high-security government facilities, are deliberately separated from the internet and other networks to protect against cyber threats.

GoldenJackal, possibly linked to Russia, has targeted government and diplomatic entities in Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia since 2019.

It’s hard enough creating one air-gap-jumping tool. GoldenJackal did it 2x in 5 years.
