The supertanker, carrying 1 million barrels of crude oil, has been abandoned and burning in the Red Sea for three weeks following attacks by Houthi militants.
A successful salvage operation is critical to prevent an environmental catastrophe. For context, this oil volume is nearly three times that spilled by the Exxon Valdez in 1989.
