After 3 rounds of melting the seatpost with lye, I was able to hammer out the edges with a screwdriver and bend it inwards with pliers until it broke free. It needed a lot of persuasion.
This was a messy job but it worked! If you ever try this, wear full PPE and do it outside since the chemical reaction produces flammable hydrogen gas.

Another round of out several. It heated up so much that the taped up seat tube melted a hole and leaked molten aluminum seatpost out the bottom each time.

This is nasty stuff. Dissolved aluminum seatpost bubbling out of the bottom bracket.

Last resort: dissolving the stuck seatpost with lye.
The ice and blow torch to shrink the aluminum seatpost and expand the steel seat tube didn't cut it (pun intended?). Onto more drastic measures of chopping off the seatpost and making inner cuts so I can hopefully crumple it inwards. Failing that, the last step is dissolving the aluminum seatpost with caustic soda. 🫣

The #snap for #JOSM is very out of date, using Java 11 which breaks many plugins. I contacted the email address listed on Snapcraft to inform the maintainer, but it bounced back. The JOSM Snap appears to be abandoned.
I'm going to install the #flatpak package instead.
Trying to remove a seized seatpost from a project bike. The pipe wrench and penetrating lube didn't cut it. Next stop: dry ice and blow torch to try to get some separation. Failing that, I'll use the nuclear option and dissolve the seatpost with caustic soda.
