This is perhaps why Inkscape 2.0 will be 1.5 until we know for sure we haven't broke everything important.
Such was the issue with 1.0 at the time. Though I'm glad we made that move.

How long is a piece of Inkscape String?
We got 8 applicants per job so far on our Inkscape job posting. And that's a lot more competitive than last year when we had 2... for 2 positions.
We still have a couple of weeks for people to submit their applications too. (probably too long on reflection).
Each one is a bit of work to get through so I do ask for any job application, please keep the cover letter sharp and short 😅
