This town does not keep secrets. It records them.

I am the archivist. This is The Tavenend Tapes—the public record of my investigation into the strange and unsettling events of this forgotten Cornish town.

Each week, I will unseal a new case file and analyse the evidence within: a found recording, a lost cassette, a final voicemail. I believe a single, disturbing pattern connects these tapes. This archive is my search for it.

The investigation commences on Thursday, 6th November 2025.

"IT MOVED THROUGH THE WIRES, AND IT LET HER LIVE.!"

Case File #0005: The Stenographer’s Last Words is now live.

A police station burned from the inside out. One witness survived and later died the same way. A fifteen-second tape fragment remains:

"A HEARTBEAT RISES BENEATH THE EARTH AT CASTILLY HENGE.!"

Case File #0004: The Giant's Heart is now live.

Hear the recording of a man crushed by the sound of a heartbeat rising from the earth:

CASE FILE #0004: PENDING.

I have a field recorder on my desk, recovered from a patient currently detained in the Bodmin Secure Unit. The metal chassis is crushed by immense pressure, yet the man holding it was physically untouched.

He went to Castilly Henge to record silence. Instead, he captured a force heavy enough to warp aluminium and crush the mans mind.

The Investigator.

CASE FILE #0003: THE ALLOTMENT.

The dictaphone in question was brought to me after being found on the coastal path. Inside the coat were a few gardening tools and a pair of boots marked with dried mud and salt. The microcassette inside the recorder is labelled in a shaky hand: "Carter - Allotment Notes" and will become case #0003.

CASE FILE #0002: THE COLD CALLER.

I recovered this microcassette from a box of office supplies at a car boot sale. It’s labelled simply "Home."

It begins as a standard answering machine tape from the late 90s. Domestic. Mundane. But the static between the messages isn’t random. It’s learning.

The entity on this tape mimics voices with terrifying precision.

THE SILENT TIDE INCIDENT.

The official report called it a freak tide—a tragic statistical anomaly.

I have digitised the corrupted bodycam audio from one of the first responders, PC Evans. What she recorded on the harbour wall contradicts the official narrative.

She didn't find drowning victims. She found people standing at the water's line... with skin like wet salt.

RECORDING BEGINS.

I’ve finally finished setting up the equipment in the workspace. There are hundreds of them here—cassettes, micro-tapes, digital drives. Voices from the town that no one else has heard.

I am starting the digitization process today. I've labelled the first entry "The Archive." I need to understand what is happening in Tavenend.
