Fun fact: #Mastodon were in #Seattle before the Space Needle
does anyone know of a 100% solar-powered (even if it's intermittently available a la solar.lowtechmagazine.com) Mastodon server? i am somewhat interested in moving off the mastodon.social server to either something more local or more decentralized, and a solar social server would be a cool experiment to take part in. (i have very few followers, so re-post if you feel the mood to boost reach!)

Blacktwitter.io is a fediverse server that's important for community diversity. Their fundraising right now is falling a bit short of costs.

Facebook (meta) goes to great lengths to prevent scraping. If you try to download content by using curl or python requests it will not work. For example if you install vanilla yt-dlp and try to download a facebook video, it will fail with "Cannot parse data". This is the facebook detecting the download attempt not being a real browser and failing the download. Simple workaround such as spoofing the user-agent header won't help here.

If you need to bypass this protection you need to use browser impersonation. For example:

$ python3 -m pip install -U curl_cffi
$ python3 -m pip install -U "yt-dlp[default,curl-cffi]"
$ yt-dlp --impersonate "Chrome-116" <facebook-video-url>

If you need to be logged in to account to download you can use --cookies-from-browser <browsername> to fetch the cookies from the browser cookie database (or use other means to pass the credentials to yt-dlp).

Tried a third time (each attempt takes five minutes) and changed the claim type from Vision to OTC and it let me get to the end of the submission. Then there’s no claim listed in the View Claims section. I didn’t get an email. I printed the confirmation screen at least. But how about these dark patterns. #freeluigi
Back to site, entered all the details of the claim, and there was no Next button. It was just below the viewable area on mobile and wouldn’t let me scroll. Tried again from iPad and even with the greater vertical resolution that Next button was still a few pixels beyond the tappable area. Workaround: switch from full screen to windowed mode, now you can scroll down. Tap next, and the form disappears. Didn’t submit? Tried again, same result.
I have an FSA with United Healthcare through my employer. Leftover funds expire at the end of the year so I went to spend them on some FSA-approved items at an online retailer. Attempted to pay with the FSA card number. Declined. Checked all the numbers and retried several times. Declined. Paid with a regular credit card and went to the UHC website to submit a claim. It said try the app. Got the app went through a 2FA login and it turns out *my* type of account can’t be used with this app, ok.
