I'm caller #26, scheduling my mammogram. TWENTY-SIX.
The doctor sent orders to the imaging center. The imaging center notified me via USPS they'd received the order, & call to schedule. And so I call.
Now I'm caller #26 on a Wednesday afternoon. I wish this sort of thing were an exception, but it isn't. It's an irritation for me to monitor my phone as I continue to move through my work day. In the end, I'll make this appointment and go to it, optimistic that it will be fine and knowing that if it isn't, I am well-resourced to handle it and that we've hopefully caught it early.
Too many cannot spend an afternoon on hold to make a single appointment.
And so they don't.
The appointment will get delayed if it's ever made. Early detection screenings save lives. People die because life-saving health services aren't reasonably accessible to them.
Health is a fundamental human right.
(and please schedule whatever screening you've been putting off!)
