Was @adminv. Moved to infosec.exchange as I'm not really in a position to manage my own server at this time.

Canadian SOC Lead, CTF Player, Wrestler Watcher, Guitar Player, Cat Owner, Husband, Missing Punk. There isn't a wikipedia article about me, just things I helped with.

@BeAware Sorry to hear you're going through that buddy. Have hope. Things will be better!

Good News! πŸš¨πŸ‘€

I am delighted to finally announce today what I've been working on in the past few weeks:

Privacy Guides' new Activism section!
https://privacyguides.org/activism/

The Activism section offers a new way to empower the digital rights community. It will progressively grow with more tools to support the community in its privacy activism effort, both for individuals and organizations πŸ’›

As Privacy Guides' new Activism & Outreach Lead, I will be working hard on developing this section even further in the coming weeks, adding many more tools to support our community.

I hope this can be a helpful resource for anyone who is ready to fight for privacy rights βœŠπŸ”’

Privacy Guides

The correct response is still "Fuck you Discord, too little too late".

They're only pulling back from March to later this year, and adding credit card options instead of face scans isn't addressing the issue of "fuck you, you don't need to know who I am".

YES! This is AMAZING! πŸŽ‰ Keep pushing against abusive practices, and keep fighting for your privacy rights! IT WORKS! βœŠπŸ”’ https://9to5mac.com/2026/02/24/discord-just-canceled-its-planned-age-verification-rollout-for-now/ Edit: Just to be clear, I still encourage everyone to move to better platforms and delete your Discord accounts (even if there was no age verification at all). Discord isn't a privacy-respectful platform. But this small victory means we should keep pushing for better privacy practices, everywhere. This means they are listening. This means you have the power to make things better, for yourself and for others. Celebrate that. And keep pushing back. #Privacy #AgeVerification #Discord #PrivacyWin

@Em0nM4stodon Its a small win. I've been trying to get my friends to move over to Matrix, but its been an uphill battle. I also really hated the "hello fellow privacy enthusiasts" tone of the CTO's blog post.

Not sure if its been brought up, but using the wayback machine it looks like Discord only listed 2 new roles, a privacy engineer and privacy counsel in the past 2 weeks.

To exist online in 10 years, you're going to have to give a random company a face scan and photo ID and they're going to give that and everything you post to the government to spy on you for being queer, left-wing, "a criminal," or whatever. None of your data or communications will be private. The government and corporations will go through all of it.

If you don't want that to happen, you should raise a stink about "age verification" right now because that's what they're actually building.

@JJGadget Sure. Here you go. It's not exactly well written:

@everyone I know I haven't been quiet about Discord fucking you all, but this age verification thing is really bad. Its all handled by a company called Persona, and feeds an enormous amount of data points directly to the US government. It includes financial information, your political ideas, your emotions, obviously your face and biometric data, assumes your immigration status, your physical location, and if you're a "politically sensitive person". They retain the ability to close financial accounts and get you arrested. This includes if they believe you're associated with any persons of interest. This is a crazy level of spying I am personally not comfortable with, and I will likely greatly reduce my interactions on Discord as a result. I highly recommend that none of you provide any information to Discord and if possible, leave if you feel like you can.

Here are some links to back up what I've been saying:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/news/2026/02/age-verification-vendor-persona-left-frontend-exposed
https://cybernews.com/privacy/persona-leak-exposes-global-surveillance-capabilities/

If you have Discord installed on your computer you should remove it as it has the ability to tell at least some of the programs you have running. This really is Discord moving into spyware/malware territory and you shouldn't take this lightly. I'm not doing this to fear monger, or raise unnecessary concern. This is seriously fucked up and a violation of the social contract we all have with this platform.

Age verification vendor Persona left frontend exposed, researchers say

Behind a basic age check, researchers say Persona’s system runs extensive identity, watchlist, and adverse-media screening.

Malwarebytes

I posted a lengthy message to my friends and every server I'm active on on #discord about how obscenely evil their new #ageverification policy is and shared links about the most recent persona breach.

Everyone seems extremely disturbed by the obvious privacy violation this is and everyone is planning to leave. Some of my coworkers are spinning up a teamspeak server and the majority of my friends have been moving to #Matrix.

Be the squeaky wheel!

@Chigaze we knew it was too good to be true!
